Artists sought for public outdoor art gallery in West Hartford

West Hartford Art League hopes to find artists to decorate bus stops around West Hartford, similar to this, in an effort to beautify West Hartford.

WEST HARTFORD — The West Hartford Art League is seeking artist proposals for a public art project to be completed on ten bus shelters throughout the town of West Hartford, according to an email from the organization.

Interested applicants must include a sketch, drawing or painting of their proposal, a list of materials that will be used, with an adherence to materials that can be easily taken off the glass/plexi-glass structure, and must be able to adhere to the time frame for completion, listed below.

Ten works will be chosen and each artist will receive a $600 stipend towards materials. Bus shelter locations will be assigned by the West Hartford Art League. One bus shelter will be alocated for a student artist.

Accepted artists will be listed on our ArtWalk map, on the West Hartford Art Leagues website, and must agree to work in public.

Each proposal is required to have a spot for a person to stand and be incorporated into the artwork in some way. We encourage the public to photograph themselves with the artwork, and post images on instagram and facebook page with the hashtag #whalpublicart

A Peoples Choice Award will be given out in the fall.

Proposals due by Wednesday July 31, and 10 accepted works will be posted by August 7.

The project start date is Sunday August 16 and work must be completed by Saturday August 29.

A work schedule must be presented to the Art League for the public and will be posted on our website.

Applications will open on our website on Monday June 22 at
