AVON — Avon Summer Theater marks their 59th continuous summer production with the smash hit “Mamma Mia!,” July 26, 27 and 28. The enchanting, hilarious story that has become an international sensation is told through Swedish pop group ABBA’s timeless hits and takes place on a magical Greek island paradise.
On the eve of her wedding, a young woman’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited twenty years ago. Non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers, along with the magic of ABBA’s hit songs including, “Super Trouper,” “Dancing Queen,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” “Take a Chance on Me,” “Thank You for the Music,” “Money, Money, Money,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and “SOS,” combine to make this show a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget.
The diverse cast of high school students come from Avon, as well as, surrounding communities including Simsbury, Canton, Collinsville, Burlington, Unionville and Farmington and includes: Audrey Lewis (Farmington) as Donna, Margaret Fishman (Unionville) as Rosie, Lauren Fitzgerald (Burlington) as Tanya, Sarah Yeisley (Simsbury) as Sophie, James Carlson (Canton) as Harry, Andrew Cavanaugh (Canton) as Sam, Brian Lybeck (Avon) as Bill, Marcel Paige (Avon) as Sky, Neel Srinath (Avon) as Pepper, and James Vicente (Avon) as Eddie.
Additional cast members include: From Avon: Grace Allen, Rachel Allen, Alexa Dailey, Maggie Fowler, Katrina Frez, Asa Jackson, Christine Marie Havens, Samantha Hoefer, Catherine Hyers, Annika Mathias, Allison Rinehart; From Farmington/Burlington/Unionville: Brooke Fitzgerald, Molly Gerace, Noah Gerace, Samantha Scheidel, Leah Steinfeld; From Canton/Collinsville: David Cabeceiras, Reagan Carucci; From Simsbury: Nicole Ramenda, Kate Cardinal.
In addition, the technical crew, Tori Plourde (Canton), Sarah Obie (Avon), Maya Krodel (Avon) , Emily Byrne (Farmington), Emmaline Howe (Avon) will be assisting stage manager, Tim Scalzo (Farmington) under the direction of Technical Director/Set Designer Ken Jones (Canton), and Assistant Technical Director, Ruby Holt (Avon).
The production is directed by Doreen Cohn (Simsbury), with choreography by Terry Rowe (Canton), music direction by Diana Lawler (Canton), costume Design, Cindy Braunlich (Simsbury), and Production manager, Peggy Beauregard (Avon).
“Mamma Mia!” will be performed at the Avon High School Auditorium, 510 West Avon Road. Performance dates are July 26, 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 (adults), $10 (students/seniors) and are general seating and can be purchased from cast members or at the door (cash or check only). The box office opens an hour prior to curtain.
