Blues Blizzard dance coming March 28 to West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD — The Connecticut Blues Society, announces its annual “Blues Blizzard” dance will be held Saturday, March 28, at the Hannon-Hatch VFW, 83 South Street, West Hartford, according to a release from organizers.

Four seasoned blues acts from all over the state will perform to raise funds for CTBS events, mainly the Band and Solo/Duo Blues Challenges the organization sponsors each year. Doors will open at 5PM and live music begins at 6 p.m., beginning with St. George & The Dragons. Bands following with 45 minute sets include: Brandt Taylor & The Undertakers, Jr. Krauss & The Shakes, and Petey Hop & The Boogie Brothers.

These acts will be playing original contemporary blues numbers and as well as R & B tunes. Practically all of these band members have won the Connecticut Blues Challenge in the past, representing the state at the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge, held in Memphis, Tennessee.

The donation for admission is $10, and the general public is urged to attend. Food and drinks will be available from the Hannon-Hatch VFW members.

This event differs from the Connecticut Blues Challenges in that there is no pressure to perform among the participating bands. The idea is to have as much fun as possible, to keep the crowd dancing, and for musicians and blues fans alike to make new friends with the same love for the music. The “Blues Blizzard” atmosphere is electric, and the dance floor fills early in the evening.

This annual event, which has taken place at least 25 years, is so popular that in one year, people had to wait to get in, per order of the West Hartford Fire Marshall. Connecticut Blues Society president Ed Stack, described the “Blues Blizzard” as “The best blues party in the state!” Organizers of this year’s event are CTBS Board Directors Ray and Sue Meeker. The mission of the non-profit Connecticut Blues Society is to promote and preserve the blues as a unique art form in Connecticut.

As with all events, please call the venue to make sure the event is still on.
