Former State Troubadour, Kate Callahan

WEST HARTFORD — Join Flora on Wednesday, June 12, for an unforgettable evening of music with Connecticut’s former State Troubadour, Kate Callahan, with special appearances by Kate’s Vocal Empowerment students. The concert will take place at Flora, 45 Raymond Road, Floor 2, West Hartford.

From the spring of 2016 through June 2018, Kate served Connecticut as its 16th State Troubadour. With an opportunity to support the greater community, Kate’s desire was to work with the prison population. To bring this vision into fruition, Callahan created a vocal empowerment program for the women at York Correctional Institution in 2016. Wanting to advocate for the voiceless, she is now in the second year of supporting women who have lost all of their resources to remember that they have one: their voice.

Callahan’s program at York has been so well received that she now offers workshops and presentations for the public. Serving both women and men with a range of vocal goals, Kate’s June 12 concert will present herself along with her most committed students. Kate’s music gives us a glimpse of what she appreciates in life, and tackles how to rise above life’s circumstances — her visionary soul alive in her lyrics, and reflective of her resiliency, tenderness and love of folk music.

Flora is a unique vegan restaurant, serving delicious plant-based food with flavor and depth. The menu also includes a full bar, meat and fish options. For this occasion, Flora will offer an intimate listening room environment, and a $40 prix fixe 3-course dinner. The first two courses will be served from 6 to 7 p.m., with the performance from 7 to 8:15 p.m., followed by dessert. Reservations are highly recommended.
