WEST HARTFORD — The West Hartford Art League will open its galleries again in September, after being closed since March due to the pandemic. and is seeking artists to enter work in its annual regional exhibit, CT+6, according to an email from the organization.

This exhibit is open to artists in all mediums, from CT, New York and New England. The Best of Show winner receives a $1,000 cash prize, plus an opportunity for a one-person exhibit in one of the Art League’s two galleries during the 2020 - 2021 gallery season. Another $2,000 in awards will also be given. The exhibit will be held in the West Hartford Art League’s two galleries on Buena Vista Road, and will be juried by Tula Telfair, a professor of art at Wesleyan University, who is represented by the Forum Gallery in NYC.

Interested artists can submit their work on our website at www.westhartfordart.org/call-for-artists. The deadline to enter work is August 3, 2020. Work is being accepted online this year due to Covid concerns. Accepted artists will be notified on our website and will be instructed where and when to drop off their work for the exhibit.

CT+6 is the Art League’s largest and most selective exhibit of the year. Past jurors have included Ming Jung Kim, director of the NBMAA, Susan Cross, curator at Mass MoCA, and other notable artists, directors and curators. Artists who have their work juried into three CT+6 exhibits become an “Elected Member” of the West Hartford Art League, and are eligible to exhibit work in an annual elected artists exhibit.

A decision on the opening reception will be announced closer to the exhibit, due to Covid concerns.

Our galleries will be open Thursday through Sunday with a limited number of people allowed at one time. Visitors will be required to social distance and wear masks.
