WEST HARTFORD — The St. Peter Claver Knights of Columbus, Council 10817 has installed Austin Gillis as Grand Knight of the Council. Gillis, who lives in West Hartford with his wife, Meghan and their three children, Clare, Maggie. Ryan, has been a Knight since 2012 and has held Council positions of Warden, Chancellor, and Deputy Grand Knight according to an email from the council.

Other officers assuming positions on Council 10817 are Mike Richardson, Deputy Grand Knight, Kevin Walsh, Financial Secretary, Joe Cassano, Chancellor, Jim Palma Recorder, Jean Michel Sibille, Treasurer, Paul LeMay, One Year Trustee, Phil Prespare, Two Year Trustee, Jon Gearty, Three Year Trustee, Greg O’Connell, Membership Chair, Joe Whittel.

Since its founded in the early 1990s, St. Peter Claver Council 10817 has supported many charitable service projects for the church and community. In 2019 the Council donated a Cabin for the Hartford Catholic Workers summer camp in Voluntown. Through the continuing support of St. Peter Claver Parish and the community for their annual BBQ dinner in 2019, the Council was again able to donate to The Town That Cares Fund in support of the West Hartford Food Bank.

Beginning in 2009, the Council had identified St. Agnes Home as the local charity they would support with their major fund raising efforts. During the period that followed the Council raised over $200,000 through their Birdies for Babies Golf Tournament to benefit St. Agnes Home.

The Knights of Columbus counts more than 1.8 million members worldwide and last year donated more than $167 million and 70 million hours to charitable causes.
