WEST HARTFORD — Beth El Temple of West Hartford, 2626 Albany Ave., announces an evening program commemorating its 65th anniversary. The community is invited to join the synagogue for an evening celebrating our vibrant Jewish future together with Reflection, Resilience and Affirmation on Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m.

“The Jewish way in this world has always been marked by the embrace of challenge and response with a way of life celebrating hope and courage,” says Rabbi Jim Rosen. “I’m delighted that we will be able to join together for an evening that honors not just a thriving Beth El but also our enduring Jewish spirit.”

World-renowned historian, author and Professor Deborah E. Lipstadt will provide the keynote address for the “Strengthening Our Foundation” event.

Lipstadt is Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta. She is the award-winning author of seven books and numerous articles. Her newest book, “Antisemitism: Here and Now,” has received high acclaim. She wrote this important book prior to the horrific incident that occurred in Pittsburgh at the Tree of Life Synagogue.

“Deborah Lipstadt has long been my hero, a true woman of valor!” says Judith Rosenthal, first vice president and fund-raising chairwoman. “Her foresight and inner strength to continually address issues vital to Jewish history and life has been nothing short of groundbreaking. When she recently became troubled about the resurgence of anti-Semitic attitudes and behaviors in our world today, she confronted it head on. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate our 65th Anniversary, than standing up to anti-Semitism with Deborah Lipstadt leading the way.”

The evening also includes the presentation of the Stanley M. Kessler award, honoring the life of Abby Weiner. “With grace, heroism, and honor, his life demonstrates that we can overcome limitations that we did not think possible. His memory serves as a beacon for human rights and social justice for all. A man for our times, Abby Weiner challenges and inspires us to live the lives of unbending principle.
