WEST HARTFORD — A Vernon man has been charged with an alleged sex assault on a pregnant woman, according to WTNH8.

Robert Tate, 26, a former West Hartford police officer, and a current Hartford Hospital nurse was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sexual assault, assault on a pregnant woman and other related claims, said police.

Police state that in March, the victim alleges that Tate overpowered her and sexually assaulted her. At the time she was pregnant with Tate’s child and after the assault, she sought medical attention at a Worchester, Mass. hospital.

The victim then obtained a restraining order, which Tate did not fully comply with, said police.

When police executed a search warrant on Tate’s residence, they confiscated ammunition. Tate is being held on $150,000 bond.
