In Wes Hartford, Noah Webster House seeks members to support its mission

Members and visitors take part in the This Place Matters walking tour.

WEST HARTFORD — The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is looking for civic-minded residents to join the museum as members said a release from the museum. Become a member and demonstrate that you care about your community’s history and heritage. Member support provides critical funds, allowing the museum to host community programs, educate children, preserve a National Historic Landmark, and open its doors to the public daily to promote the legacy of Noah Webster and the town of his birth. Can you believe that in a town of over 60,000 people, the museum has only 150 members? It needs you to join the growing community of people who believe that preserving our past is critical to understanding our future.

From its perch on South Main Street, where it has stood since 1748, the Noah Webster House has inspired generation upon generation of West Hartford residents. It has become an emblem of West Hartford history, a common element that connects us. For the past 50+ years, as the home base of the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society, this old place has also become a site where the community can come together to learn about and celebrate its history and heritage.

Museum membership entitles you to free admission to Noah Webster’s historic home throughout the year, member-only rates on our many engaging programs, and discounts in the museum shop and on facility rentals. An enhanced membership gains you access to over 1,000 museums in the North American Reciprocal Museum program.

But more than what you get from a membership, you can feel good about what you give. Through membership support, the museum is able to host more than 60 public programs per year that enrich the lives of so many. The museum’s Education Department has offered quality, hands-on learning experiences for over 30 years and serves 5,500 students annually — 20% of which attend free of charge. And of course, our members keep history alive by helping us preserve the 250+ year old birthplace of founding father Noah Webster and the historical archives of West Hartford.

Membership starts at $30. Join today and show that you care about your community’s history and heritage. Visit www.noahwebsterhouse/membership or call (860) 521-5362 x15 for more information.

The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society are open daily 1 to 4 p.m.
