WEST HARTFORD — American Legion Hayes-Velhage Post 96 has awarded its 2020 School Certificates of Distinguished Achievement for 2020.

The awards, which are presented annually, recognize students who possess high qualities of Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship, and Service according to an email from Post 96.

The 2020 recipients for High Schools are: Conard High School — Julian Flores, Medal, Devan Barnum, Certificate; Hall High School — Liam Wilson, Medal, Delnaz Amroliwalla, Certificate; American School for the Deaf — Jarmal Puryear, Medal, Cesar Aguilar, Certificate; Northwest Catholic — Catherine Hurlburt, Medal, Matthew Deneen, Certificate; Intensive Education Academy — Emily Masamitsu, Medal, Nathan Barbati, Medal, Johnathan Noble, Certificate.

Recipients for the Middle Schools are: Bristow Middle School — Konrad Motyka, Medal, Alessandra Welz, Certificate; King Philip Middle School — Charlotte Mullin, Medal, Jeremy Baun, Certificate; Sedgwick Middle School — Ellin Messina, Medal, Jaydon Schuler, Certificate.

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness.

It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to service members and veterans

The American Legion Post 96 of West Hartford has been serving veterans and the community since 1922 and is open to all military veterans who have served honorably and military personnel currently on active duty.
