Past participants rave about annual festivities at the event including: Irish Step Dancers from Griffith Academy, prizes for best “Irish Garb,” face-painting, a clown, leprechauns and balloons; During registration, participants can expect to enjoy an inflatable gaga-pit donated by the West Hartford YMCA and a photo-booth while sipping coffee or hot chocolate donated by Dunkin Donuts GAD Franchisee.
Once the race is over, be sure to join your fellow joggers — and some more Irish Step Dancers from Mulcahy Academy — at Rockledge Grille for a Silent Auction and After-Party.
Founded by West Hartford residents, Dan and Kelly Clark and Dan and Laura Moran, Johnny’s Jog for Charity, Inc. is inspired by the incredible, brave life of a young boy, Johnny Moran. Johnny was born with a rare and debilitating condition. The unwavering love and support, provided by a myriad of individuals and organizations, helped Johnny fight every challenge thrown his way. To celebrate Johnny’s resilience and strength during his nine inspirational and smile-filled years, Johnny’s Jog for Charity plans to bring the community together yet again to celebrate Johnny’s life and give back to deserving non-profit children’s organizations.
Co-founder, Dan Moran, says, “we are so incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community of West Hartford. Ten years ago we never imagined this event to grow to be 1,000 participants and raise close to a half a million dollars. The generosity from volunteers, sponsors, donors and participants is overwhelming. We can’t thank them enough.”
Johnny’s Jog for Charity has raised $434,000 for local children’s organizations in the past nine years. Last year the 5K brought together over 1,000 participants — the most yet. 125 corporate sponsors and raised $90,000 for the local children’s organizations they support annually.
Covenant Preparatory School of Hartford provides tuition-free middle school to boys in underserved families in the City of Hartford in order to help them graduate academically prepared for further education (www.covenantprep.org).
The Miracle League of Connecticut fosters a community and sports facilities that remove all barriers so young athletes with unique needs are able to join their friends and experience the joy and triumph of team sports in their purest form (www.miracleleaguect.org).
Finally, The Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation helps finance the purchase of much-needed medical supplies or services when insurance is exhausted and other social programs are unavailable (www.mollytango.org).
These organizations benefit the lives of countless children annually and depend on communal donations to do so. To celebrate it’s immense growth over the past 10 years, Johnny’s Jog has decided to spread the love even further within the community by adding a Clover Club Charity as a rotating 4th beneficiary each year. Friends of Brigid Curtin at Westmoor Park, who are raising money for a new outdoor classroom to honor Brigid’s memory, will be the inaugural Clover Club Charity this year www.facebook.com/BrigidCurtinWestmoorPark/.
Register online now through March 28, at 3 p.m. or at the event beginning at 9 a.m. on the day of the race in Blue Back Square, West Hartford. Street parking is free.
