West Hartford Department of Public Works will collect Christmas trees from Jan. 3 to Jan. 14 following the trash collection cycle.
Crews will begin in the Monday trash collection area and continue into the Tuesday area, and so on. They will make two complete sweeps through town during the two-week period. Residents are encouraged to put their trees at the curb, not in the street, on any day during the first week of collection to ensure pick-up. Crews may get ahead of schedule, weather permitting, and move into the next collection area.
From Jan. 10 to Jan. 14, trees must be at the curb by 6 a.m. on your designated trash day. Drivers cannot return for trees put out after the set trash day.
Collected trees are recycled into wood chips so all decorations and lights must be removed. No artificial trees or bags will be collected.
People should remove trees from the side of the road if there is a snowstorm. Crews cannot dig out trees buried under snow.
Residents also have the option of bringing their trees to the town’s Recycling Center at 25 Brixton Center, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are no weekend hours until April. An annual permit is required.
