West Hartford man arrested in connection to death of his infant

WEST HARTFORD — A West Hartford man was arrested in connection with the death of his infant.

Police said they arrested 34-year-old Grant McAuslan and charged him with first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor.

According to Capt. Eric Rocheleau, West Hartford police said they were called to a home for a medical emergency on Dec. 3 at 11:21 p.m.

Upon arrival, West Hartford police said they were told an infant had sustained injuries from a fall while in the care of a parent. The infant was transported by ambulance to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

West Hartford police said they opened an investigation due to the severity of the injuries.

On Dec. 4, detectives were informed that the child had died due to the injuries it had sustained.

West Hartford police then issued a warrant for the arrest of McAuslan. McAuslan is being held by West Hartford police on a $1.25 million surety bond.

Rocheleau said the matter remains an active and ongoing investigation.
