WEST HARTFORD — The Town of West Hartford plans to repave Farmington Ave. (Walden Street to North/South Main Street) and LaSalle Road (Farmington Ave. to Arapahoe Road). This project is a short term solution and only the travel lanes will be re-paved as part of this work.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to last two days. Pavement milling is planned for Monday, Sept. 16 from Midnight to 11 a.m., and paving is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 17 from Midnight to 11 a.m.
In order to safely perform this work Farmington Ave. and LaSalle Road will be closed, except to local traffic. Signed detours will be in place to direct traffic around the work zone (see attached plan). Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, but on-street parking will not be permitted within the work zone. The contractors will start on Farmington Ave. at the North/South Main Street intersection, which will allow the intersection to be re-opened to traffic in time for the morning commute.
The Town originally intended to repave Farmington Ave. and LaSalle Road after some planned utility work by the Metropolitan District Commission and the Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation. The utility improvements are expected to begin this fall and will continue for the next several years. Based on the current pavement condition, delaying the re-paving work until after the utility work is not an option. This project is intended as a short-term and temporary solution.
For this reason, only the travel lanes will be re-paved, which significantly reduces the cost of the project and will provide a smooth rideable surface. Upon completion of the utility work, both sections of roadways will be fully repaved.
